Day in the life of fostering Business Support Administrator Sian
At Unity Foster Care, we provide excellent support to foster carers, children, and young people in Yorkshire and areas of the North East.
We’re a small but mighty team, who pride ourselves on properly taking the time to get to know our fostering community. We know our foster carers by name, not number, right down to the details of how they like their cuppa!
One member of our friendly and dedicated team is Business Support Administrator Sian, who is responsible for the important task of ensuring all foster carer’s documents are complete.
Tell us about yourself.
Hi, I’m Sian! I joined Unity Foster Care in January 2024, and I’ve enjoyed every moment with the staff and foster carers ever since.
Before starting my current role, I worked as an administrator at a school. I had never worked in the fostering sector before, but I’d enjoyed working with children previously, and I felt this opportunity would be a great change.
What does your current role involve?
I am responsible for completing all of our foster carers’ documents, including car insurance, driving licences, gas safety certificates, DBS checks, and medicals. I also assist our Training Officer Emma with training administration.
Recently, I started learning how to do referrals, working closely with our Referrals Officer Michelle, which is very exciting!
What does a typical day look like for you?
No one day is ever the same! I am always doing something different, from sorting out documents that are due to expire to looking through referrals and matching them to our available foster carers. It’s always a busy day!
What’s the best thing about your role?
The best thing about my role is helping to place a child with our lovely foster carers. It brings me so much joy to know I have helped a child in some way. I also like that I’m able to help our fantastic team with anything anyone needs.
What advice would you give to someone who is considering fostering?
If you are considering fostering, get in contact with us. Our Recruitment Officer Gemma can answer any questions you throw at her, helping you to make that final decision.
Take the time to consider all angles of fostering, and if you feel you are ready to give a child a home, go for it!
What do you get up to in your spare time?
I like to relax in my spare time! You will mainly see me watching my partner’s rugby games on the weekend and spending time with friends and family.
At Unity Foster Care, we are dedicated to supporting foster carers in Leeds, Yorkshire, and surrounding areas in the North East.
