Foster Care Fortnight 2023 – Louise’s Story!
Welcome to Foster Care Fortnight 2023! Over the next two weeks, we’ll be highlighting the #FosteringCommunities and all the amazing work they do to ensure foster children feel safe, loved and cared for. At Unity Foster Care, we pride ourselves on creating a family-feel, supportive community with children’s welfare at the heart of everything we do. Our fostering community comprises of many wonderful, hardworking people; including Supervising Social Workers, Administrators, Support Workers, Foster Carers and more!
To kick off Foster Care Fortnight, we spoke to foster carer, Louise, about her experience of being in a fostering community:
Hey Louise, can you introduce yourself?
“Hi! I’m Louise, I’ve been a foster carer for over 5 years now, and I’m based in Yorkshire!”
Why did you want to become a foster carer?
“It’s something I had considered for years prior to returning as a nurse. I felt my background would enhance my role as a foster carer!”
The theme for Foster Care Fortnight 2023 is #FosteringCommunities. What does a fostering community mean to you?
“To me, the theme #FosteringCommunities means community awareness of the need for foster carers, and to appreciate the work foster carers do.”
If you could give advice to someone interested in becoming a foster carer, what would it be?
“Fostering is such a rewarding experience! It can be an emotional rollercoaster, but the success stories outweigh the negatives. Commitment is needed!”
