How will I be matched to a child when I foster?
If you’re considering fostering, you will likely have lots of questions. This might include whether you’ll get a say in who you foster.
At Unity Foster Care, the happiness of our foster carers and young people is a top priority. This is why we always involve our foster carers in the decision about who they will be fostering.
Our detailed matching process ensures foster carers are well-matched to children for the best outcomes.
How are foster carers matched with children?
The fostering assessment helps us to identify who you might be best equipped to care for. Once you have been approved as a foster carer with Unity Foster Care, you will then be matched with a child.
Our careful matching process is usually carried out by our Referrals Officer Michelle, who always discusses any potential matches with foster carers and the supervising social worker before moving forward.
Key considerations are taken into account during the matching process, such as life experiences, location, transport availability, ages, personal preferences, and more.
Where possible, we also like to involve the young person being fostered in this decision. In some circumstances, introductory visits can be arranged.
Who could I be fostering?
We receive requests for foster carers to look after a variety of children of varying ages, from 0-18. This can include siblings, children with disabilities, and even parents who need guidance on caring for their baby (parent and child fostering).
Whether you choose to care for a child long-term or short-term, we have different fostering types to choose from.
